I hope everyone had a wonderful Holiday season and enjoyed special moments with their loved ones. To start the New Year I wanted to reflect by listing my view of some 2011 milestones for our little part of the world (remember I'm a sports fan going in) and setting new ones for myself and family for the next 12 months.
2011 -
1. Our Beloved football teams receive national attention- Badgers lose to TCU in Rose Bowl and the 6th seed Packers win their 3rd Superbowl!
*personal life- bittersweet as My Mother passed away Feb 3rd and after hosting my family for the game we had her Funeral the next Day
2-.New Governor Walker ticks off Democrats (they leave rather than vote) and Madison is inundated with protesters.
*personnel life- I beg my wife to allow me to do a memorial of sorts in honor of my Mom and raising Cancer detection awareness
3- Spring and Summer weather brings so many High wind/Tornado's and hail storms to our area keeping roofing contractors busier than usual.
*personal life- My Family huddled in the basement for one April storm that caused enough hail damage we are now scheduled for getting a new roof after this winter. I am trying to talk my wife into letting me walk the State- up to 5 mile combo walk/jogging sessions - 'OUCH' my right knee starts to hurt after a workout.
4- Brewers playing great Ball, Democrats still upset but returned from hiding!
*personal life- We start making plans for buying a camper, getting Kids a sitter for the summer and I am no longer running. Participated in a my wife's work sponsored compilation month of June 'Iron Man wellness event' - 30 days to complete. 2.4 mile swim, 112 miles bike, 26 miles walked - I started June 1st , finished June 26th - time just under 16 hours. Convinced wife to let me do the trek across Wisconsin. she starts working on a idea to create a blog for me ( I am technologically challenged)
5- Brewers leading the Division first time since 1982!! NFL lockout finally ends NBA lockout begins and we are going to have pro-football , GO Pack! Recalls in place for several people and Democrats start coordinating Governor Walker recall attempt
*personal life- Back to school time arrives for kids, great camping summer! plenty of Pool time and Rainbow playset fun. My Daughter turned 9 (against better judgement promise her a puppy). Up to 3 - 4 walks per day 4-5 days a week 14- 18miles each day. Right knee is really hurting- schedule 1st doctor visit.
6- BrewCrew wins Divison, wins first playoff rd against AZ then loses to Cardinals. Republican candidates emerge to run against Obama. Odd mix of- Cain, Bachmann, Perry, Paul, Gingrich, Huntsman, Romney (Trump and Palin looking in).-hope I did not miss anybody -geewhiz! Promising Badger Football team disappoints with back to back losses.
*personel life- receive devastating news that I will need a total knee replacement- duldrums to follow, then perk up with moving forward on buying a camper and as 1st step buy new truck for Wife as her primary vehicle (she was so pleased- HaHa!) Kid's back in school and I start PT on knee along with slowing my walks down to less than 3-4 miles 3x per week. Offset lack of walk training with biking and swimming. Oldguywalk blog is launched.
7- Packers win 13 in a row then lose to big underdog KC. Recall atempt begun by organizers. Badgers regain opportuinty and win out for another Rose Bowl in 2012. NBA is locked out-(who cares) and we have an unusally warm early and late Fall season with a very warm beginning of winter. Dusting of white on Christmas Day
*personel life- My little boy is now 6 with a big hayride Birthday party just before halloween. Decide on the camper we want and buy it for a huge family christmas gift -see 'outback'- model 312bh on websearch( you will see what I mean). I get a second opinon on knee which confirms future need for knee replacement (bone on bone on inside of right leg joint) Doc gives me an steroid injection and tells me to take it easy. I begin with YMCA non impact exercise sessions 5x per week (spin stationary bike and water areobic classes) cleared by doctor to walk again but carefully - up to 7-8 miles 2x walks per day 3 to 4 times per week.
NOTE- MY DAUGHTER MADDIES 6 WEEK OLD PUP ( LILLY) ARRIVES ON NEW YEARS DAY!!!

2012 My short list
Many of my resolutions are typically not attainable (like winning the lottery) so for my blog I plan on only listing realistic reachable ones.
- Train for and complete the Oldguywalk in June
- Find supporting company sponsors for this effort
- produce promo materials hopefully donated (i.e.. posters, t-shirts, car magnets, those types of things)
- Ask for and get some volunteers to help
- reach my goal of donating to the LUNGevity Foundation $5000.00
- should get a good jump start with another my wife's work exercise challenges at KC (Jan-Feb timeframe)
- Wife and I doing WeightWatchers will help.
- Completing the Oldguywalk won't hurt either
- camping with our new camper
- having the puppy become a member of the clan
- Be a better Dad and Husband (taking my wife's cue on this one)
- while they win Super Bowl, World Series, and Number 1# rankings for Badgers- ok this one is a bit of a stretch!!!
- no more doomsday talk!!!!!
